The
‘Friends of Northcliffe’ is a local community group originally formed
in 1990 to help enhance Northcliffe Woods and Playing Fields for the
use of the public, to protect wildlife and preserve the character of
this unique area for future generations.
A
good relationship exists with Bradford Council who manage these lovely
woods and fields. Much has been achieved with mutual
cooperation. Members have put up bird and bat boxes, constructed
steps, cleared paths and streams, thinned saplings and endeavored to
clear the non-native Himalayan Balsam from areas of the
woodland. Crocuses, daffodils and snowdrops have been planted,
sometimes with the help of local children’s groups. There is so
much more that could be done.
Northcliffe
Woods and the Norman Rae Playing Fields together make up an area of
countryside which, because of its variety, appeals to people with many
different interests; whether bird watching, working on an allotment,
playing football or simply taking a stroll, there is something for
everyone.
Friends of Northcliffe
organise three walks in Northcliffe every year led by one of our
members, a botany expert. These are always well attended by both
members and non-members.
